“Nikola Tesla is a name to conjure with. He’s had cars and scientific units named after him. He’s featured in The Big Bang Theory, and Gravity Falls; he’s even been in an episode of Doctor Who! He’s surrounded by myths: he invented AC transmission; he feuded with Edison; he wanted to give the world free energy but was thwarted. But what about the history behind the myth – a myth that Tesla helped to invent himself. In this lecture I take a look at the spectacular public performances that made Tesla famous – and at how he tried (and ultimately failed) to remake the future in his own image.”
